Marie is a diabetic and wanted to lose weight. She consulted Mike after her doctor suggested seeing a personal trainer.

Seven months later, she lost 42 pounds (WOW) and feels and looks fantastic. In terms of her diet, Mike suggested a Zone type diet--which consisted of:
40% carbohydrate
30% protein
30% Fat
She worked up to burning 2,000 calories a week.

How do you spell success--M.A.R.I.E.

Listen to what a colleague had to say about Mike. Dr. Ciaramicoli is a clinical psychologist and worked with Mike at the Metro-West Wellness Center in Framingham, Massachusetts.

They conducted an Adult Weight Management Program together which combined exercise, nutrition, and emotional support.
Listen and watch how a type 2 diabetic  lost 20 pounds in 3 months. On a health standpoint, he went off BOTH of his diabetes medications.

Congratulations Tim.

A colleague of mine from Joslin Diabetes Center phoned me about 1 1/2 years ago regarding a patient (Steve) that needed personal training. His goals were threefold: (1) Weight Control; (2) Maintain blood sugar control and (3) to receive a strength and conditioning program that encompasses ALL aspects of fitness. He also needed the accountability of a trainer
to keep him on track.

Although he is working with a registered dietitian (RD) at Joslin in terms of his first 2 goals, I needed to give him a well rounded fitness program that
complimented the work of his RD.

Let's listen to Steve and his thoughts
on his personal training experience with me.

A Testimonial to Mike Sylvester

I had been having a weight problem since my senior year of college.  I had gained and lost 20 pounds several times and at 5’ 3 ½” and a small frame that much weight was a lot!!

In February of 1997, I lost my husband to cancer, we were both 43; my daughters were almost 13 and 9 ½. I had managed to keep my weight down during his illness and even through my older daughter’s Bat Mitzvah 7 weeks later and the Passover Holidays.

But, after Passover, reality set in for me and I once again began to find comfort in food, slowly gaining 50 pounds over the next year.  In February of 1998, I joined a gym once again, working out and losing some of the weight.  A few months later, however, I stopped going to the gym and eating too much, gaining back most of that lost weight.

I was not happy with myself and decided to try and once again return to my gym in July, 1999.  I was offered several free training sessions, and lucky for me my trainer was Mike Sylvester.  Mike had just written the prototype for his “Getting to the Bottom of It,” so besides starting a training program with him I also purchased his book and followed the guidelines.

I still don’t know why, but somehow it all made sense to me.  Between the book and meeting with Mike it was almost like magic.  Mike’s encouragement as well as exercises tailored to my needs motivated me not only to go to the gym 3-4 times a week for my workouts, but start to change my lifestyle to one of living and eating healthier.  By the end of October, just 3 months later, I had lost all of the weight I wanted to – I felt great and so good about myself.  And this time I really felt I could keep it off and do it all on my own!!

Well, here I am 11 years later.  Not only have I maintained my weight, I have lost even more.  I still base my workout and lifestyle on what Mike taught me.  And at almost 57 years old, I have never felt better!!  Not only is my weight down (yes I do honestly LOVE looking at myself in the mirror), but the workouts and eating correctly also help with some other medical conditions my DNA has given me (including high cholesterol and osteopenia).

Mike is NOT a miracle worker, but is a wonderful and understanding motivator who can help you reach your goal whether it is just getting healthier, losing weight or both.  I highly recommend him as a personal trainer, and would be happy to speak to anyone about my fantastic experience with Mike!!!
